THANK YOU!!!! – Living A Life Of Gratitude

Thanks so much for coming back to my blog! If you haven't done so yet, please sign up for my newsletters to receive updates and valuable information.

You may have heard some well-known self-help gurus reminding everyone to have “An Attitude Of Gratitude” pretty frequently lately. In one of my posts, I even talk briefly about the importance of showing gratitude in order to become successful in all that you set out to do.  The reason is that by constantly showing gratitude for all that you have and all that you are capable of doing, you are sending positive energy out into the world and opening yourself up to the positive energy that will come back to you in more ways than you ever dreamed possible.

I was at a party the other day and found myself involved in a conversation with an older gentleman, named Paul, who was probably in his 70s or 80s and had a bright twinkle in his eye.  Paul was telling me some fun anecdotes about his life, which included tales about his wife, daughter and grandchildren.

At one point, Paul went on to share how grateful he has been for having the life that he has lived and how much he loves his family.  He also said that he had NO REGRETS about anything that he did.  He concluded by saying that every morning when he wakes up, he begins to count in his head.  When he gets to somewhere between 3,000 and 5,000 he stops and remembers that that is how many blessings he’s grateful for.

I was so moved by what Paul told me that day that it has stayed with me ever since that party.  His story has inspired me to practice having an attitude of gratitude more often than I did before…though I’m still working on counting to 3,000 in the morning when my daughter is screaming “Mommmmeeeee” so that I can rescue her from her bed and feed her breakfast.  :-)

I invite you all to think about Paul’s story–take some time to meditate upon all that you are grateful for and share your appreciation with the universe.  You will truly be amazed at all the wonderful things that will transpire in your life as a result!

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my blog!  It is always wonderful to *hear* from you all, so please leave your comments in the space provided below.

If you enjoyed this post, by all means share it with everyone you know via Twitter and Facebook–spread the love to the world!  :-)

Love to you all!

Namaste,

Great post and a wonderful reminder – Actually I was feeling really down that I wasn’t where I wanted to be in both my businesses and then I realised that I was wishing I was somewhere I wasn’t and started focusing on the present moment and enjoying every minute and in just days I have had good news and business coming my way. My thoughts and my rejection of the present moment were repelling business. Gratitude and present moment living are much better places to be. Ps my daughter’s middle name is Namaste.

It is actually impossible to count the blessings we all have in life. Every day is filled with them. But the problem is that most people just live right through them, never pausing to be grateful for what they have. Each day there are a dozen things we can each be grateful for. Here are mine:
    1. Woke up and felt good.
    2. Shower water was hot.
    3. Coffee smelled absolutely fantastic brewing.
    4. I had time to cook breakfast and it was great.
    5. My dogs all seemed happy to see me this morning…tails wagging.
    6. My wife.
    7. Talked to my new business partner and we’re pushing forward.
    8. Got my morning tasks all completed before lunch.
    9. Went out for lunch to Jersey Mike’s Subs…excellent! Get the Number 8.
    10. Exterminator came and there are not mice!
    11. Got the grocery shopping done early, so I can work late without interruption. Yes I like to work late.
    12. Tonight is the DailyCrusher Tribe Syndication, always a lot of fun.

That’s 12 for today. They don’t have to be earth shattering. Just nice.

Isn’t there some rule of 7 that makes it hared to remember more than 7 items at a time? LOL

I do know that there are Chinese symbols for understandings that the English language cant comprehend. I know that the word “patience” may have over a dozen different states. I have to believe the same is true for gratitude.

The oriental culture also values their elders in a way that the western world has lost. I’m happy you recognized Paul’s wisdom.

    Thanks for sharing.

Heather, you are right on! I try to remember to always have gratitude and compassion for everyone and everything. I can also totally relate to your description of your daughter yelling for you. For me, it’s my 18 year old son! How often am I doing my morning or evening Buddhist meditation, deep in profound thoughts and feeling all connected to the universe, and my son will come charging down the stairs asking “what’s for dinner”? Or my wife (who also meditates) will come in and remind me (for the 3rd time) that the recyclables have to go out to the curb that night!

But it is exactly at these moments that I have the most gratitude to be surrounded by such life and vitality and appreciate their roles in making me a stronger person and keeping me from getting to full of myself!

With advance technology, the hustle and bustle of everyday life, we sometimes need to take a moment to smell the coffee and look all the beautiful things that surrounds us. Like loving family and friends, the people that we come in contact with and imparts words of wisdom. Just acknowledging all the great things in our lives. Do not wait till we lose it all to realize how good it was. It’s the little things in life that matters the most.

Thank You for the reminder of life’s little lessons. Nameste.

    Heather,

This is a great post and I really like your writing style. I can relate to the mornings :) This is a great exercise and it’s so important to remember every day for what we are grateful for. I remember learning from Dr. Wayne Dyer one time that when he thinks of something that is going wrong, he stops and thinks of 10 things he is grateful for.

Thanks for sharing this great idea. I look forward to more of your posts.

    Blessings,
